Hoops. Nobody on this Tennessee team has ever lost to South Carolina, and they don't plan to do so tonight. Hopefully, the crowd, which ranks 5th in the nation in showing up for games (or, for the more cynical, 5th in the nation in conspiratorial turnstyles), will continue to do their part. Tennessee is 10-3 at home this season and has won 8 of its last 9 in Knoxville. Jeronne Maymon, Mike Griffith's mid-season MVP, may have a little to do with the outcome tonight as well. Perhaps Cameron Tatum, too, who is only six points away from 1,000 for his career. As we said yesterday, there's a lot on the line tonight against the Gamecocks, and not getting it done would be quite disappointing. So let's everybody show up, aight?
Recruiting. LB Kenneth Bynum and his parents enjoyed their visit to Rocky Top this week, and Bynum hopes to make a decision by Thursday. And yes, he caught the positive vibe he was looking for, even on a Monday/Tuesday on a college campus. However, said vibe was reportedly hot sauce-free, because, as we know, hot sauce has no nutritional value. (Yeah, don't skip that last link.)
Extras after the jump.

Spring Practice Schedule
The Vols open on Monday, March 26 with the first of 14 practices leading into the Dish Network Orange and White Game, which is set for Saturday, April 21 at 2:30 p.m. at Neyland Stadium.
43 UT athletes named to SEC Academic Honor Roll " GoVolsXtra
Forty-three Tennessee student-athletes from the school's three fall varsity sports were named to the SEC's Fall Academic Honor Roll, the league announced on Jan. 26. Twenty of the 43 student-athletes hailed from the football team, 11 of whom were members of recent signing classes. The vast majority of the women's soccer team (13 players) was featured on the list, while 10 members from the Lady Vols volleyball team also made the cut.

...'cause it has medicinal properties,
and it can clear up blocked sinus passages! Try the really hot kind next time you can’t breathe.

Wings, BBQ, Tex-Mex, eggs...SMOKIN' !
memphispete - February 8, 2012
So Memphis just joined the Big East...
That’s not going to help their numbers for keeping a BCS slot.
Caban - February 8, 2012
The Big East...
Seeing as they’re really not relegated to the Eastern US anymore, they ought to change the name of the conference to something reflecting their new national footprint. Conference America, or United States Conference or something like that.
Knox the Fox - February 8, 2012
Conference USA?

I see no problem with this logic.
Alternatively, if you figure that most of the remaining schools are in metropolitan areas, you can also name it the Metro Conference.
Chris Pendley - February 8, 2012
It's settled then!
METROCON
David Hooper - February 8, 2012
Joining the Big East is not a good move for Memphis
They can dominate C-USA and earn an automatic bid every year in basketball OR get spanked in the highly competitive Big East and struggle to have a winning season. Josh Pastner says, “Hmmm, my contract just got tougher.”
It will be fun to see UConn, G’Town, etc on a regular basis at the FedEx Forum.
Football will be a complete joke, as Memphis routinely loses in a horrible football conference. The Liberty Bowl was beautiful 40 years ago, but needs a huge upgrade. Perhaps the TV money will enable the upgrade?
memphispete - February 8, 2012
I'm guessing this is driven by FedEx money.
They were offering straight up cash to BCS conferences last summer, and I feel pretty certain that the offer still stands. They probably offered extra cash to Tiger High as well. I can’t decide if they feel that getting in a BCS conference will help them get better, or if their pride has replaced the logic centers in their brains.
David Hooper - February 8, 2012
And it just hit me:
The logic is probably this: now that they’re in a BCS conference, they can sell BCS conference to local recruits. They probably believe that’ll help them keep more of the better athletes in the area, which will help them get better, etc.
David Hooper - February 8, 2012
This will work great when automatic qualifiers go away in 2014.
Chris Pendley - February 8, 2012
Yeah...
Rutgers, UConn and a bunch of ex-CUSA schools will not be particularly impressive.
Heck of a conference for Rutgers though, with a decent coach it should basically be dominated by them and USF.
Caban - February 8, 2012
Ding, ding.
As if they needed more incentive.
David Hooper - February 8, 2012
That, and the problem has always been this:
The recruits could go to Memphis, a BCS conference, or to the SEC.
David Hooper - February 8, 2012
and will take with them...
Memphis style bar-b-qued ribs…..hot sauce optional.
SLSmi - February 8, 2012 via mobile
And looking at Pomeroy...
South Carolina sucks at everything except offensive rebounding and blocks, both of which they are very good at.
