You cannot be serious!

I plan on writing more on tennis at a later date, where I will tell you all about Freshmen Brandon Fickey -- and other new additions to the team -- and his reputation for on-court McEnroe-esque outbursts, among other not-negative attributes. It appears that Mr. Fickey is doing his best to live up to his reputation. Some of you may be outraged by his behavior. And Coach Winterbotham is certainly not pleased. But I actually find it humorous. You see this in tennis all the time. For one of fourteen trillion possible examples, here is Marcos Baghdatis -- one of my favorite players, actually -- taking his frustration out on his racquets two weeks ago at the Australian Open. If you're reading this sentence and you haven't clicked on the link in the previous sentence, I think you should go back and do that. It will be worth one minute and seven seconds of your time. It is pretty funny.

After the jump, check out videos featuring Cuonzo Martin, Kenny Hall, Jerrone Maymon, Georgia highlight, and tennis highlights that unfortunately do not include temper tantrum footage.

YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS

Tennis footage is greatly appreciated. McEnroe was the greatest of all time as a whiner and complainer. He had a natural advantage as a Yankee.

Watching a lot of jr tennis these days and I hate the whiny attitudes by many of the kids. Also hate the cheating on the line calls. Both failures reveal the character of the parents in almost all cases. Love the parents who don’t tolerate either behavior in their kids. They are refreshing to visit with during the matches.

Apparently Mr. Fickey (and his parents) need a good spanking.

I can tolerate bad behavior in the form of an occasional lost temper

But cheating on line calls is Busch League. You just don’t do it.

Nothing will get me angrier on a tennis court than repeated questionable line calls. In one instance, either during a junior tournament or in high school play, a guy was really cheating me bad. So on a game point, he serves it to me, I return it, he returns it back to me in the middle of the court and I call the ball out. Next game.

He is all up in arms and wants a line judge. I said “thank you…yes, let’s get a line judge”.

So, yeah, shame on Fickey for cheating — if he was cheating. I’m lenient on racket destruction, but cheating…you just don’t go there.
