Honors Bestowed on BasketVol Standouts Past and Present

MONEY! The Worldwide Leader in Sports celebrated the 25th anniversary of the three point shot (at the NCAA level) by holding a competition to elect the greatest three point sharpshooter in College Hoops history. The masses let their voices be heard, and our own Chris Lofton now gets to wear this very cool crown. And it wasn't even a close finish (there will be no debates about hanging chads) as Lofton beat out the runner-up J.J. Reddick by over 10,000 votes. Go ahead and take a trip down memory lane (after the jump):

Star-divide

.

Surprise surprise. Jarnell Stokes received SEC Freshman of the week honors shortly arriving in Knoxville in midseason mold-breaking fashion. Here is an interview with Mr. Stokes that you may or may not have seen:

Let's just stick with the video clip theme. Here is yesterday's press conference with Coach Martin:

And here is the sweetest 'Stache in all of College Basketball. By far.

And I love Chris Lofton. He is one of my favorite players in basketball history. But greatest three-point shooter in the history of college basketball? Hmm…

There is no player I’d rather have taking a big shot for my team with the game on the line than Lofton in his prime – his shot over Durant to force overtime against Texas is my single favorite shot in basketball history – but best 3-point shooter ever? I don’t know about that. Kudos to Vol fans for voting early and often.

well, he was only 25 made threes away from Reddick for most all-time

and, as you mentioned, extremely clutch. Despite playing his senior year under, shall we say, less than ideal conditions. You can make a case for junior Lofton over anybody

fixed it

thanks

I"ll say this

I probably would have gone with Reddick.

So at least he beat out strong competition.

Reddick was my first thought as well.

These things are obviously unscientific, and I don’t know what their criteria were, but I’m assuming they meant the entire body of work over their college careers. And we now know what Chris was dealing with his senior year, and it was a heroic performance under the circumstances. But it wasn’t as good a year as his junior year. It’s not fair, but it’s just how it is.
