Happy (observed) New Year's Day. Here's your Sports Television Gorge Blueprint. Who do you like in all of these things and why? Are you rooting for the SEC? Against SEC East rivals? For some and against others? And what about Oklahoma State? Do you want them to lose just to remove any doubt about who should be playing in the National Championship? How do you see the Ducks/Badgers playing out?
This is the day's thread. We'll have a separate one for the Vols' basketball game. Happy Day to you.

This is a really good group of games
even Houston/Penn State is interesting because I have no idea what either team will do; I put one point on that in the picks because of the Penn State mess and Houston not being in the BCS.
Speaking of the picks, at roughly two-thirds of the way home only one person is at 20-3, and with confidence points it remains almost anybody’s game. If you’d like to have some real fun, check out this page in our group at Fun Office Pools (you may have to be logged in to the pool to access it – it’s the “What If Scenarios” page in the left hand column). I’m in 42nd place and there are 39 different scenarios (of 4,096 possible combined outcomes in the remaining 12 games) that still lead to me winning the pool. You can do a search (ctrl+F) for your entry name and see how many different ways you can still win it.

I'm eliminated
can’t say I didn’t expect that. did you see my list of rough endings going against me in the last thread (several regarded my spread pick’em and not this, but still)?
Incipient_Senescence - January 2, 2012
if all 12 of my remaining picks win out
volsfan1038 wins

Was one of them Baylor?
My twitter feed has been full of people lamenting bad beats the last three days
Will Shelton - January 2, 2012
no
Toledo, Tulsa, Iowa (completely pointless touchdown ruins +14), Northwestern (completely pointless field goal ruins +10), and the worst of all terrible beats: GT/Utah under.
I’ve been saying all year that Utah would completely shut down GT’s offense and was the best play of bowl season (which is why I had 30+ FOP points on an underdog). So, of course, I hypo’d Utah, Utah/GT under, and GT team total under. All were winning at the end of regulation. Two lost in overtime. Nothing worse than being an under player in overtime

I think Chad Millman at ESPN
called our Music City Bowl the worst beat of 2010.
Yesterday the Titans were -3.5 at Houston with an over/under of 39. They were on that exactly, up 23-16 and running out the clock with less than two to play and no timeouts for the Texans, when they fumbled and gave up a touchdown, then almost lost on a two point conversion before the Texans false started and airmailed a shotgun snap. That took some time off my life as a fan, I’d imagine it did the same for anyone who had the Titans and the under.
Will Shelton - January 2, 2012
yeah, I remember him saying that
having the under in overtime is pretty much the worst thing ever. but having the under in an overtime that shouldn’t have even happened in the first place is just ridiculous
Incipient_Senescence - January 2, 2012
lessee, here's what I have in FOP (which is completely pointless because I've been getting crushed this year):
Penn State (with +7 hypothetical)
Ohio State (with +2 hypothetical)
South Carolina
Georgia
Wisconsin (with +6 hypothetical. defensive prep time + BCS commercial time slows down Oregon)
Stanford
Incipient_Senescence - January 2, 2012
I have (with confidence points)
Houston (1) over Penn State
Georgia (30) over Michigan State
South Carolina (16) over Nebraska
Florida (18) over Ohio State
Oregon (29) over Wisconsin, though your logic is solid and now has me worried about those 29 points
Stanford (28) over Oklahoma State – still so impressed with them in last year’s bowl
Will Shelton - January 2, 2012
Tennessee vs. Chattanooga? What bowl is that?

tweeting that ESPN reporting that Justin Wilcox and Peter Sirmon are taking the defensive coordinator and position coach jobs at Washington.
If this is true. . . [Fulmerized]

Watching the Rose Bowl
is just what SEC people have been saying about every conference for years: Nobody plays any defense!
