ALDEN HILL, 6-2, 215 RB ALLIANCE, OHIO [MARLINGTON HS]
Ratings: Rivals 3* No. 48 running back, Scout 3* No. 65 running back, ESPN 2* No. 100 running back, 247 3*. Chose UT over Michigan, Northwestern, UConn, Bowling Green, Boston College, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Illinois, Ball State, Buffalo, Iowa.
STRENGTHS: He has punishing size and looks terrific running between the tackles, something UT desperately needs. Though his 40-time numbers don't look impressive, he plays again quality competition and has been noted as having very good football speed, running away from defenders in the open field. Has very good vision, and he is also a mid-term guy which will really help. Coaches saw him at a UT camp and fell in love with him, offering him before a big senior season.
NEEDS WORK: It's hard to work on speed, and though ESPN has his 40-time at over 5, UT timed him in the low 4.6s at their camp. His film certainly indicates that's closer to what he is. Still, he isn't overly fast, and the Vols still don't have a game-breaker at running back. He lost about 10 pounds this season and needs to bulk up again to 225-230. The Vols want him to be a bruising back, and if he winds up not fitting that mold, he can move to fullback.

CREDENTIALS: An incredible junior season got Hill many of his offers. In 2010, he was All-Ohio Associated Press Division III Offensive Player of the Year ... All-Ohio Associated Press Division III First-team ... All-Northeast Inland District Offensive Player of the Year ... All-Northeast Inland District First-team ... Repository All-Stark County Player of the Year ... Repository All-Stark County Player of the Year Division III-IV-V-VI ... Repository All-Stark County First-team ... NBC Player of the Year ... All-NBC First-team ...That season, he rushed for 2,247 yards on 282 attempts for 33 touchdowns, adding two more receiving touchdowns. As a senior, teams keyed on him more but he still finished with 1,409 yards on 185 carries with 16 rushing touchdowns and two more receiving TDs. Finished as Marlington's all-time career rushing leader with 4,745 yards ... Earned All-Ohio Associated Press Division III First-Team honors as a senior ... Akron-Beacon Journal All-Star First Team ... All-Northeastern Buckeye Conference ... All-Stark County honors, Division III ... First-Team Canton Repository Division III ... WHBC All-Stark County Offense Division III ... First-Team Northeast Inland Division III Offense Honors ... Rushed for 1,409 yards with 16 touchdowns in 2011 ... Caught eight passes for 216 yards with two touchdowns
OPTIMISTIC CEILING: The Vols are really hoping Hill has the potential to be a mauler, like a Jacob Hester or Stevan Ridley. He isn't overly fast, and he won't stand out in that regard in the SEC, but UT simply doesn't have anybody who can pound between the tackles, and Hill almost has to be that guy. Worst-case scenario, he will be moved to fullback where he'll be a nice weapon for the Vols there. If Tennessee can land a marquee running back this year, that may not be a bad move for Hill, anyway. Regardless, he should hammer his ways to some carries based on size alone.

People might disagree
But he sort of remind me of Arian Foster who appeared slow with his long stride but was fast enough. Wonder if he has Arian’s receiving ability?

What really set Arian apart, particularly his breakout Freshman season
was his shiftiness and vision. He was hard to get a hit on and had deceptive speed and change of speeds. Either the coaches or he decided he needed to be bigger and I think that and the slow deterioration of the o-line caused a bit of performance decline going into his Senior year.
Although he’s bigger, he has that deceptive speed and shiftiness again that he showed his Freshman year.

Arian made his debut
In what game? Remember that long TD that was called back for a penalty. Had the freshman record for yards in a single game I think.

not sure about the debut
but his first game as a starter was against South Carolina. He ran for 160 yards and a touchdown, yet everybody only remembers a fumble out the back of the end zone in the first half.
The UT fan treatment of Arian Foster was enormously unfair

His first carries...
came against UAB in game one.
His big “debut” really came against Alabama though, after Gerald Riggs got hurt early in the game. He then started the next game against South Carolina and gained 150 yards at almost 6ypc. Gained 138 at Notre Dame, 135 vs. Memphis, 233 vs. Vanderbilt, and 122 vs. Kentucky.
In retrospect, it’s rather astounding that we went 2-3 with him starting. Our passing game was sooooooooooooooooooo bad that season.

and unbelievably enough...
Montario Hardest started getting the lions share of carries in early 2006. We sure had some questionable decisions made offensively during the 2000s.
Caban - January 13, 2012
we lost the Vandy game where he ran for 233
that says it all

Kinda disagree about Sr performance
He shoulda entered draft after Jr season but wanted to break the alltime rushing record. Fumbles was his downfall, but still he deserved better from the fanbase.

our run blocking...
was flat out embarrassing in 2008.
Travis Henry would have had trouble running behind that line.
Caban - January 13, 2012
His vision is why he's a great NFL back.
He runs behind a good zone blocking line, he sees the hole, and he hits it quickly. And he’s not easily brought done.
TennesseeTyrants - January 14, 2012
I don't care how slow he is...
if he can consistently get between 3 and 5 yards every carry.
We’ve got plenty of supposed fast guys, but what we need is a guy who is difficult to bring down and can actually find the holes.

So I'm snacking on some sour skittles...
and my dog, Sadie, gives me that look that means she’d like one.
I figure, she’ll probably taste it and make a gross look on her face and be done with it… nope, I now have a DOG with a taste for sour candy.

Guys sorry, I'll post two Projecting the Future pieces tomorrow if I can
Spent the entire day on the Elk River fishing. 38 trout, the delayed viewing of UT-UK (Stokes is a beast), and two playoff games later, I’m pooped.
